Connect email

Gmail / Google Workspace

Connect a Gmail or Google Workspace address to Elvo by signing in — Elvo then receives and sends mail on your behalf.

A direct connection to Gmail or Google Workspace is the simplest option: Elvo receives and sends mail on your behalf, and everything — including sent mail — stays in sync.

Connect

  1. Open Settings → Email and click Add account.
  2. Choose Google.
  3. Sign in with your Google account and approve the permissions Elvo requests.
  4. Once connected, the address appears in the list and mail starts arriving.

Google Workspace

If your company uses Google Workspace, an admin may need to approve access for the domain. You can also connect shared addresses (e.g. help@) that you have access to.

Permissions Elvo asks for

A mailbox connection asks for three Google scopes and nothing else:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly, to read incoming mail
  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.send, to send your replies
  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email, to confirm which address was connected

Elvo never asks for permission to delete mail, and asks for nothing at all in Drive, Calendar or Contacts. The OAuth client ID is 853336223311-tc2ad1uq5avlmkrd663umc2ohm52v81g.apps.googleusercontent.com.

Signing in to Elvo with a Google account is a separate app with its own client ID, 933020642426-12fjnfb4dj76t62sdausf9pesdo46min.apps.googleusercontent.com, and it asks only for openid, email and profile. See Users & roles.

Allowlisting Elvo on a Workspace domain

If App access control is restricted in your Google Workspace, an admin has to trust the app before anyone can connect a mailbox:

  1. Google Admin console, Security, Access and data control, API controls.
  2. App access control, Configure new app, OAuth App Name Or Client ID.
  3. Paste the mailbox client ID above, and mark it Trusted.

If you run more than one Workspace domain, this has to be done in each of them.

FAQ

Do I need admin access? For personal Gmail your own account is enough. For a Workspace domain, an admin may need to authorize Elvo.

Does sent mail show in Gmail? Yes — mail you send from Elvo also appears in Gmail's "Sent".

What if the connection drops? Sign in again under Settings → Email to refresh the authorization.

Does the connection survive when the person who set it up leaves? Yes. A company mailbox belongs to the organization, not to the person who connected it, and the permission comes from the Google account signed in inside the consent window, that is the mailbox itself. Deactivating that person in Elvo changes nothing. The connection only breaks from the Google side: the mailbox account is deleted or disabled, the permission is revoked, or the address is turned into a group or an alias.

Can I connect a group address or an alias? No. The Google connection needs a real mailbox. Use forwarding for group addresses instead.
